Should You Take the Casino Bonus?
When No Bonus Is the Better Deal
The short answer
Claim a bonus when its rollover sits below the break-even point for the games you play and you’d have played that volume anyway. Skip it when it doesn’t, when it locks your deposit, or when it’s your first deposit at a casino you haven’t tested. Wager-free cashback, rakeback and free bets are almost always worth taking. Most big deposit matches aren’t.
Offers and scores below are from our bonus tables as updated on 25 September 2026. Casino terms were checked for our reviews in September 2026.
The cashier is designed to make claiming feel automatic: register, deposit, tick the box, play. Ticking the box changes more than your balance. It decides which games you can play, how much you can bet, when you can withdraw, and whether your withdrawal goes through an automated check or a manual audit. Sometimes that trade pays. Often it doesn’t, and you can work out which before you deposit.

The one number that decides it: break-even rollover
Every bet you place to clear a bonus costs you the house edge on average. Wager enough and the expected cost equals the bonus itself. That point is the break-even rollover, and it’s simply 1 divided by the house edge, counted on the bonus alone:
| What you play | House edge or margin | Break-even rollover (bonus only) |
|---|---|---|
| Slots at 96% RTP | 4% | 25x |
| Slots at 97% RTP | 3% | 33x |
| Slots at 98% RTP | 2% | 50x |
| Sports singles, typical margin | 5% | 20x |
| Sports singles, major markets at sharp prices | 3% | 33x |
| Three-leg accumulator at 5% per leg | About 14% | 7x |
If the rollover counts on deposit plus bonus, halve those numbers. A 30x deposit-plus-bonus requirement on a 100% match is really 60x the bonus.
Break-even is an average, and bankrolls run out before averages arrive. We simulated 20,000 players each depositing $100 for a $100 bonus on a 96% RTP, medium-volatility slot at $1 spins. With 30x on the bonus only, 40% finished wagering and players left with $119 on average, a small profit on the deposit. With 30x on deposit plus bonus, 22% finished and the average was $84, a loss. Same headline, opposite result. The full simulation is in our guide to RTP and volatility, and the rollover maths is in what rollover means.
Would we claim these live offers with our own money?
These are real offers from our tables, scored with our grading formula. A high score and a yes aren’t the same thing: the score rates the terms, the verdict asks whether a normal player should tick the box.

The easy yeses
Free bets, cashback and rakeback cost you nothing to take, because there’s no rollover eating into them. The one catch with free bets is that the stake isn’t returned, so they’re worth less than face value. At a 5% margin, a $250 free bet is worth about $119 at odds of 2.00 and about $158 at 3.00. Longer odds get more out of a free bet, which is the opposite of how most people use them.
The “with care” on Gamegram is about paperwork, not the cashback. Gamegram doesn’t publish its welcome terms (we got them from live chat), and its AML rules allow a fee of 10% to 50% plus forced wagering if it decides your play isn’t “entertainment”. Thrill’s rakeback is clean, but its terms cap its liability to you at your total deposits, so withdraw winnings rather than leave them there. Cloudbet’s terms allow a handling fee of up to 5% on withdrawals. Our cashback guide covers how each is paid.
The ones that depend on you
BetUS’s 18x sits just under the 20x break-even for a 5% margin, and comfortably under it if you bet major markets at tighter prices. The $100 minimum deposit is the real filter.
Megapari’s 5x looks trivial, but accumulators stack the margin. We measured Megapari at about 3.6% on NBA sides, which compounds to roughly 10% on a three-leg acca, so 5x costs you about half the bonus on average. Two catches decide whether that’s worth it. When wagering is done, the bonus balance releases no more than the original bonus, so the upside is capped at the bonus itself. And you pick a casino or sports track before depositing: switch or decline later and you lose every following deposit offer. Opt into sports, bet accas you’d have bet anyway, and finish Megapari’s KYC early, because it asks for proof of funds and can take its time. Skip the casino track: 35x in 7 days at €5 a spin scores 51.
Mega Dice’s “200%” isn’t a bonus balance at all. You play your own deposit, and every time you’ve wagered it 6 times, 10% of the bonus lands as withdrawable cash with no win cap. In effect it’s 3.33% rakeback on slots for 14 days. On a 100 USDT deposit you wager 6,000 USDT to collect all 200 USDT: at 96% RTP that loses about 40 USDT, at 96.67% it breaks even, and at 97% you’re about 20 USDT up. Slot RTP decides the whole offer. Sports count 50% and roulette 5%, so clearing it there loses money. Two terms to know before depositing: Mega Dice caps its total liability to you at €500, and it charges 8% on withdrawals if you haven’t wagered your deposit once.
The noes, including one we rate 80, and a borderline
BetNow scores 80 because its terms are clean: 20x, no minimum odds, a low minimum deposit. But 20x is exactly break-even at a 5% margin, so the bonus is worth roughly nothing on average, and BetNow holds your first payout for 30 days. On a first deposit, that’s a month-long wait for a bonus with no expected value.
Sportsbet.io’s 25x is above the sports break-even and locks your deposit until wagering is done, so one misstep puts your own money at risk. 1xBit is the borderline case. Its first deposit is 40x the deposit on a 100% match, with 30 days and sports at 1.60+ counting in full, which is better than most crypto welcome offers. It’s still double the roughly 19x break-even at the 5.2% margin we measured on its NBA and tennis markets, so take it only on volume you’d bet anyway, and skip the 50% second and fourth deposits, where the same rule becomes 80x the bonus. Never follow the pack with a small top-up: four equal deposits plus a 10 USDT fifth crosses 1xBit’s 70% bonus-to-deposit abuse ratio, and it can then cancel winnings made with bonus funds. And no-deposit chips are lottery tickets: FortuneJack’s version makes you deposit the amount you won within 7 days before you can withdraw it, which makes it a deposit offer with extra steps. More of these are in our no-deposit bonus list, graded the same way.
Bonus types ranked by how much admin they create
Value isn’t the only cost. Some bonuses need you to track a timer, a game list, a bet limit and a release schedule at once, and every one of those is a way to lose the bonus by mistake. From least to most to keep track of:
| Bonus type | What you have to track | Live example |
|---|---|---|
| Cashback and rakeback | Nothing, beyond when it’s paid | Gamegram, Thrill, Cloudbet, and Mega Dice’s welcome offer in practice |
| Free bet | Expiry, and that the stake isn’t returned | BetOnline, SportsBetting.ag |
| Non-sticky deposit match | Rollover, max bet, eligible games, expiry | Most tabled casino matches |
| Sports match with odds rules | All of the above plus minimum odds and bet types | Megapari, Sportsbet.io |
| Sticky or deposit-locked match | All of the above, with your deposit at stake | Sportsbet.io, CryptoSlots |
| Staged unlocks and boosts | A release rate, often per dollar wagered | 500 Casino’s boost: $1 released per $400 wagered |
| No-deposit chips | Tiny caps, short expiry, KYC on the way out | Rakebit Freechips |
Multi-deposit packages sit at the bottom of any version of this list, because they repeat every row for each deposit with separate clocks. The bigger the package, the more of the headline number is marketing. Charge complexity against an offer rather than treating it as a free extra.
When skipping the bonus is the better move
| Situation | Why skipping makes sense |
|---|---|
| Rollover above break-even | The bonus costs more to clear than it’s worth on average |
| Deposit plus bonus wagering | It doubles the work, and the break-even halves |
| Sticky or deposit-locked bonus | A single breach can void your own deposit |
| Short expiry | You end up playing faster and bigger to beat a timer |
| Your games don’t count | Live casino and tables often count at 0% to 20% |
| Low max cashout | Your best run gets capped |
| First deposit at a new casino | A bonus turns your withdrawal test into a bonus audit |
| Deposits under $50 | High rollover on a small bankroll usually ends at zero |
The detail on each of these is in our guides to sticky and non-sticky bonuses, game weighting, max cashout caps and bonus expiry.
How to test a casino with no bonus
A small first deposit with no bonus tells you what the casino is like when it isn’t selling to you. It’s also the only clean way to test a withdrawal: with a bonus attached, your first cashout goes to manual review whatever its size, as we explain in how crypto casino withdrawals work.
“No bonus” doesn’t mean you can deposit and withdraw straight away, though. Thrill, Coins.Game, Rakebit and 500 Casino require you to wager your deposit once before withdrawing, and FortuneJack requires twice on casino games. Play it through on normal bets. Thrill can void low-risk bets placed just to clear it.
- Deposit a small amount you’re comfortable losing, and don’t tick the bonus box.
- Ask support one specific question before you play: at what amount do you require KYC? A casino that gives a number is being straight with you. Our no-KYC guide lists the thresholds we’ve found.
- Play the games you’d actually play, on mobile as well as desktop. Check that search works and the providers you want are there.
- Withdraw a small amount. Time it, and get the transaction hash.
- Check that the responsible gambling tools work before you need them. Rakebit takes self-exclusion by email only and reopens your account if you don’t reply within 24 hours of the cooling-off period ending.
- Only then decide whether the casino gets a second deposit, and whether that one should carry a bonus.
Two edge cases to know. At Rakebit and Coins.Game, the first withdrawal triggers full verification whatever its size, so your test withdrawal is also your KYC test. At BetNow, the first payout is held for 30 days whether or not you took a bonus, so a small test there tells you about patience rather than speed.
What the casino shows you after deposit one
The welcome bonus is the shop window. What happens after your first deposit is the shop. Watch what the casino offers you next, because it tells you what kind of player it wants you to be.
Good signs are rewards paid as cash on the volume you were already playing: Thrill’s rakeback, Cloudbet’s cash rewards, Gamegram’s cashback paid the next day. Bad signs are rewards designed to make you play more than you planned: release schedules like 500 Casino’s boost, reloads with tighter terms than the welcome offer, and “exclusive” offers that arrive with a deadline. A casino with a modest welcome offer and honest ongoing rewards is usually worth more over a year than one with a giant package and nothing after it.
The test we use is simple: if the welcome bonus disappeared tomorrow, would you still play there? If the answer is no, the bonus was the product, and the product isn’t very good.
Small deposits need different rules
On a $20 deposit, the break-even maths is the same but the bankroll can’t absorb the swings. Most $20 bonus attempts end at zero before wagering is done, and a bust ends the bonus whatever its expected value was. Minimum deposits also filter the list hard: BetUS needs $100 and Gamegram’s cashback $50, while BetOnline’s free bet starts at $10 and Megapari’s sports match at about €6. Our guide to low-stakes crypto casino bonuses covers the offers that work at that size.
If you can’t explain a bonus in one sentence, skip it on the first deposit. If the terms are spread across several pages, or support has to explain how withdrawals work with it active, skip it. The Bitcoin bonus tables are sorted by the terms that decide this, not by headline size.
FAQ
Is it better to play a crypto casino without a bonus?
Often, especially on a first deposit. Without a bonus you can play any game at any stake and withdraw without a bonus audit. A bonus is worth taking when its rollover is below break-even for your games and you would have played that volume anyway.
What rollover makes a casino bonus worth it?
Break-even rollover is 1 divided by the house edge, counted on the bonus alone: 25x for 96% RTP slots, 33x at 97%, 50x at 98%, and about 20x for sports bets at a 5% margin. On deposit plus bonus wagering, halve those numbers.
Which crypto casino bonuses are always worth claiming?
Wager-free ones: cashback, rakeback and free bets with no rollover. They cost nothing to take. Check the payout terms, though, since some casinos charge handling fees or cap their liability.
Can I withdraw straight away if I don’t take a bonus?
Not always. Thrill, Coins.Game, Rakebit and 500 Casino require you to wager your deposit once before withdrawing, and FortuneJack twice on casino games. It’s an anti-money-laundering rule, not a bonus rule.
Are no-deposit bonuses worth it?
Only as a lottery ticket. They carry high wagering, small cashout caps and KYC on withdrawal. Some, like FortuneJack’s, require you to deposit the amount you won before you can withdraw it.
Can I cancel a bonus after claiming it?
Usually, but cancelling normally forfeits the bonus and any winnings made with it, and with a sticky bonus it can affect your deposit too. Read the cancellation rule before you claim, not after.
