Your Withdrawal Was Blocked Before You Placed a Bet
Six days pending, another “under review” reply, and you are reading the bonus terms for the fourth time. In this illustrative case, you bought Bitcoin through a private P2P seller, deposited it and completed the wagering correctly. The withdrawal still has not moved.
The deposit had already raised a transaction-screening alert because of its connection to funds attributed to illicit activity. The problem existed before your first bet. You did not need to break a wagering rule to inherit a question about somebody else’s money.
This is one explanation for a crypto casino withdrawal frozen after apparently normal play. It is not a diagnosis you can make from “pending” alone. Screening can also change later when an address receives a new label. Either way, rereading the maximum-bet clause will not produce the purchase records compliance wants.
What is an AML hold on a crypto casino withdrawal?
An AML hold is a restriction while a casino or its payment provider reviews possible money-laundering or related financial-crime concerns. Crypto transaction screening, often called Know Your Transaction or KYT, examines transfers and their connections. Identity checks alone cannot answer every question raised by that history.
Our Inside the Black Box withdrawal article explains the payment stages. Screening can sit inside that process, including before settlement or during a later payout review. A confirmed blockchain transaction tells you the transfer happened; it does not certify the funds as acceptable to the next business.

Who actually flags your casino deposit?
The flag may come from the operator, its payment processor or a screening service integrated into the platform. The analytics supplier identifies exposure; the business applies its controls and decides how to respond, subject to legal obligations. You cannot identify the supplier from a generic support message.
Chainalysis KYT, Elliptic and TRM Labs sell monitoring tools. Crystal Intelligence and Merkle Science operate in the same field, while AMLBot offers screening integrations and individual checks. Their useful function is finding connections across transaction records. Their output still requires interpretation.
CoinsPaid describes transaction monitoring in its payments workflow; CoinPayments advertises risk screening before settlement. SOFTSWISS and GR8 Tech also provide compliance workflows within their platforms. That establishes several places a review can originate. It does not prove that every casino using those businesses outsources the same decision.
Live chat may have access only to the review status. Some details may also be withheld for legal reasons. Ask what documentation the reviewer needs and how to submit it securely. The distinction between identity and ongoing review is covered in The KYC Trap.
What does a crypto transaction risk score measure?
A risk score summarises indicators such as attributed counterparties and transaction patterns. Direct exposure involves dealing with the identified source itself; indirect exposure traces a connection through intermediaries. Neither establishes, by itself, that the current recipient knowingly participated in the source’s conduct.
A transfer directly from a labelled darknet-market wallet differs from one connected to a mixer several transactions earlier. Distance can matter, but there is no universal rule that each additional hop reduces risk by a fixed amount. Attribution confidence and the category involved matter too.
Chainalysis describes configurable thresholds and direct and indirect exposure alerts. Two businesses can therefore treat the same transfer differently, even before differences between vendors enter the picture.
Screening categories can include OFAC-listed entities, stolen funds and ransomware proceeds. Mixer exposure and high-risk exchange activity may also trigger scrutiny. Gambling itself appears in some monitoring taxonomies. These labels carry different legal implications; a service-category alert is not automatically a sanctions match.
“Tainted bitcoin gambling” makes a convenient search phrase and a poor verdict. A label on a transaction graph is not a finding that its latest recipient committed a crime.
Why do Bitcoin and stablecoin deposits behave differently?
Bitcoin tracks spendable transaction outputs, called UTXOs. Ethereum and networks commonly used for stablecoins track account or token balances. Analytics can examine both transaction history and address relationships on either model, so neither offers a clean slate merely because you generate another address.
A small unsolicited Bitcoin receipt can exist as a separate UTXO. If it is later spent alongside other outputs, the common-input-ownership heuristic can suggest that the inputs share control. Chainalysis describes this clustering technique and its exceptions, including collaborative transactions such as CoinJoin and PayJoin. It is an inference, not an ownership certificate.
On an account-based chain, an unsolicited transfer adds an interaction to the address history. That does not automatically make the whole balance criminal property. A screening provider or exchange may nevertheless investigate the connection.
Consolidating wallet contents can create additional links between otherwise separate records. Avoid automatic sweeping of unknown receipts while a concern is unresolved; document them and seek instructions. Moving funds through fresh addresses does not resolve a disputed source or make its history disappear.
Does Tornado Cash’s delisting mean mixer exposure is accepted?
Tornado Cash’s removal from the US sanctions list did not require private payment businesses to accept every transaction connected to it. Sanctions status and a provider’s risk policy are different controls. A transaction can remain commercially unacceptable even when the specific sanctions designation has gone.
The US Treasury announced Tornado Cash’s delisting on March 21, 2025. That action should not be confused with the separate prosecution of co-founder Roman Storm. In August 2025, he was convicted on the money-transmitting conspiracy count; the jury did not reach verdicts on the money-laundering and sanctions counts.
Samourai Wallet’s founders pleaded guilty on July 30, 2025. According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Keonne Rodriguez received five years on November 6, and William Lonergan Hill received four years on November 19, 2025. Each received a $250,000 fine. The office reported $6,367,139.69 paid in forfeiture, distinguished from a larger forfeiture order.
Those outcomes concern particular defendants and conduct. They do not establish guilt for every user of a privacy tool. Vendors still offer mixer-exposure monitoring, and their customers can retain restrictive policies. Delisting removes a particular legal designation; it does not remove the transaction history a processor has decided to scrutinise.
Can someone else’s transfer get your account restricted?
Yes. Unsolicited transfers can trigger screening even when the recipient did not choose the sender. A platform can investigate and distinguish the unwanted receipt from the customer’s other funds, but an initial automated restriction may arrive before that distinction is made.
In CoinDesk’s August 28, 2026 report, nearly 12,000 small transfers reached Kraken-linked addresses during August 17–24. Arkham Intelligence attributed the sending wallets to HTX, which faced UK and EU restrictions. The number refers to transfers, not a verified count of frozen customers.
Kraken said some customers were briefly locked out and that its compliance team restored access while continuing to hold the flagged funds. It did not know who was behind the activity. HTX disputed responsibility and said it was investigating possible misidentification or third-party involvement. The attribution and responsibility questions should not be flattened into “HTX attacked its customers.”
The P2P case creates a different proof problem. If you pay a private seller and receive crypto from an unrelated wallet, your bank receipt establishes a purchase. It may not explain who controlled the sending wallet or why it had the flagged connection. Keep the order record and the seller’s payment instructions.
Binance P2P needs a precise distinction here: its documented process releases purchased crypto into the buyer’s Funding Account. A later on-chain withdrawal need not deliver an identifiable output directly from that individual seller. A Binance P2P purchase alone cannot prove the opening scenario or identify the source of an alert.
Other examples can be equally awkward. An inherited wallet may have years of transactions you cannot explain. A merchant refund can arrive from a processor you never dealt with directly. A pooled swap service may obscure the relationship between your payment and the outbound transfer. Innocent explanations still need supporting records.
Can a casino payout trigger an exchange review?
Yes. The receiving exchange can apply its own screening and gambling-related policies after the casino releases a payout. Casino approval does not bind the exchange, and legality depends on the activity and jurisdiction rather than the payment being labelled a withdrawal.
On September 2, 2026, OKX’s Star Xu warned that high-risk deposits could prompt reviews lasting 15 days or longer. Reporting reproducing his statement describes a response to a sports-betting transfer and mentions Telegram escrow channels. Fifteen days was not a guaranteed release date or a universal minimum.
OKX’s review process can help investigate illicit inflows while also delaying a legitimate customer’s access. Check the receiving service’s rules before selecting a payout destination. Adding an intermediate wallet does not make an otherwise prohibited transaction acceptable.
Where should you buy crypto for a casino deposit?
Prefer a legally available, regulated service that provides usable purchase and withdrawal records. That gives you a clearer explanation of acquisition, though it cannot guarantee that every future recipient will approve the transfer. For gambling funds, undocumented private sales and Telegram escrow add avoidable uncertainty.
An exchange statement should connect your identity to the purchase. The withdrawal record should connect that purchase history to the transfer you sent onward. Save them while the account remains accessible. A block explorer can show movement without explaining how you paid for the asset.
When comparing our Bitcoin casino bonuses, read the payment restrictions alongside the offer. Our article on which casino terms decide whether you get paid covers the contractual side. Completing wagering does not waive source-of-funds checks.
Use a withdrawal destination you control or one currently assigned to you by your receiving service, on the correct network. Do not copy the sending address from an exchange withdrawal transaction: it may be the exchange’s shared hot wallet. Follow the operator’s documented return-to-source procedure where required, with the receiving service’s confirmation.
The account-security article explains wallet whitelisting and withdrawal locks. They protect the destination from unauthorised changes. They do not establish the provenance of an incoming deposit.
Does the EU Travel Rule only apply above €1,000?
No. The EU Transfer of Funds Regulation’s crypto information requirements are not subject to a general €1,000 exemption. The threshold concerns additional ownership or control assessment for transfers involving self-hosted addresses. The rules began applying on December 30, 2024.
The EBA’s Travel Rule guidelines explain the information collection and wallet-control checks. Scope depends on the service providers involved; this does not mean every private wallet-to-wallet transfer carries your identity publicly on-chain. A “no KYC” casino can still interact with a payment service that requires information, as discussed in The No KYC Myth.
What should you send when your deposit is flagged?
Send a coherent source-of-funds explanation supported by the purchase statement and transaction records. Include the asset, network and relevant dates. Ask which transfer is under review and whether the request concerns how you acquired the funds or the broader origin of your wealth.
If the money came from savings, a sale or an inheritance, the reviewer may need evidence beyond an exchange receipt. Explain gaps honestly. Use the casino’s verified secure submission route, and never provide a seed phrase or private key.
Possible outcomes include clearance and payment, an authorised return, or a continuing restriction while legal or compliance requirements remain unresolved. A sanctions block can prevent a simple refund. Conversely, “AML” in a support reply is not proof that indefinite retention is lawful.
Our Curaçao regulation article provides licensing context. Verify the operator and its complaint route; neither a Curaçao nor an Anjouan badge supplies a universal review deadline. Preserve the case correspondence and follow the process in How to Actually Get Paid After a Casino Dispute.
You may be able to document every transaction you authorised. The transfer that caused the problem may still be one you never asked to receive.
