Deposit Match vs Reload Bonuses:
Which Ones Are Actually Worth It?
Quick definitions
A deposit match bonus adds bonus funds as a percentage of what you deposit: 100% up to $200 turns a $100 deposit into $200 to play with. A reload bonus is the same mechanic offered to existing players on later deposits, usually at a smaller percentage. In both cases the extra money is locked behind wagering, and the wagering structure decides whether the offer is worth anything.
Offers below come from our bonus reviews, rechecked in September 2026.
The received wisdom says reloads are the safer bonus: smaller, lighter rollover, less scrutiny. Often true. But the label tells you less than people think. FortuneJack’s weekly reload carries 30x wagering and a 7-day clock, while its sports welcome freebet needs just 3x. What separates a good match from a bad one is how the wagering is counted, and that works the same whether the bonus is your first or your fifth.
How a deposit match works
| Offer | You deposit | Bonus added | Starting balance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50% up to $100 | $100 | $50 | $150 |
| 100% up to $200 | $100 | $100 | $200 |
| 100% up to $200 | $300 | $200 (capped) | $500 |
| 200% up to $500 | $100 | $200 | $300 |
That’s the front of the offer, the part on the banner. The back of it is wagering, eligible games, expiry, max bet, max cashout and whether your deposit gets locked in with the bonus. The banner never shows the back. The back is where the value is.

Bonus only vs deposit plus bonus: the term that decides everything
Bonus-only (BO) wagering multiplies the bonus. Deposit plus bonus (D+B) multiplies both, which means you’re also wagering your own money to unlock the casino’s. The smaller the match, the worse D+B gets, because your deposit makes up more of the total.
| Match | Headline | What it really is on the bonus | Wagering on a $100 deposit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 200% | 30x D+B | 45x | $9,000 |
| 100% | 30x D+B | 60x | $6,000 |
| 50% | 30x D+B | 90x | $4,500 |
| 30% | 30x D+B | 130x | $3,900 |
| Any | 30x BO | 30x | 30 times the bonus |
A 30% reload at 30x D+B asks you to wager 130 times the bonus. That’s worse than most welcome offers, and small D+B reloads are common. BetNow’s PROMOBUCKS code says 10x, but on deposit plus bonus, which works out at 20x the bonus. Every one of its six codes counts the deposit, from 20x the bonus on PROMOBUCKS up to 50x on CASH100 (our BetNow review). Full rollover math is in our rollover guide.
The math: three offers on a $100 deposit
Expected value = bonus minus (total wagering × house edge). Assume 96% RTP slots, a 4% edge.
| Welcome: 100%, 35x D+B | Reload: 50%, 20x BO | Reload: 30%, 30x D+B | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bonus | $100 | $50 | $30 |
| Total wagering | $7,000 | $1,000 | $3,900 |
| Expected loss | $280 | $40 | $156 |
| Expected value | −$180 | +$10 | −$126 |
| Real multiplier on the bonus | 70x | 20x | 130x |
The small bonus-only reload is the only one of the three worth taking. The small D+B reload looks modest, and its expected loss is more than five times the bonus.
Survival matters too. The welcome offer asks you to push $7,000 through a $200 balance, 35 times your bankroll. The good reload asks for $1,000 through $150, under 7 times. The higher that ratio, the likelier a normal slot swing wipes you out before you finish.
Real offers: same headline, very different value
| Casino | Offer | Terms | Our score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sportsbet.io sports | 100% up to 300 USDT | 25x at odds of 1.50+, esports excluded, 7 days, deposit locked | 70 |
| Sportsbet.io casino | 100% up to 300 USDT | 40x, slots 100%, tables 10%, 12 providers excluded, 7 days, deposit locked | 56 |
| BetNow PROMOBUCKS | 100% up to $2,500, sports | 10x D+B (20x the bonus), $20 minimum | 80 |
| BetNow CASH100 | 100%, all games | 50x the bonus | 51 |
| CryptoSlots MATCH177BLIT | 177% match | 35x BO, $5,000 cashout cap, deposit locked until wagering clears | 58 |
| FortuneJack weekly reload | 25% up to 0.25 BTC, Silver tier and up | 30x, 7 days | Not scored |
Sportsbet.io is the cleanest lesson here: one brand, the same 100% up to 300 USDT, and 14 points apart. The sports version needs 25x at odds of 1.50 or better. The casino version needs 40x, counts tables at 10% and excludes every game from 12 providers, including Red Tiger and PG Soft. The headline percentage told you nothing.
Even the better one isn’t free money. On a 100 USDT deposit, 25x means 2,500 USDT of sports bets in 7 days. At the 5% to 6% margins our review measured on NBA and football, that turnover costs 125 to 150 USDT on average to earn a 100 USDT bonus. A match only pays if you were going to bet that volume anyway.
Where reloads really are safer
You’ve already cleared the first-withdrawal checks
The first withdrawal is where most verification happens, whatever bonus you took. Coins.Game asks for ID, proof of address, a bank statement and card photos on your first withdrawal. Cloudbet requires KYC once your deposits reach $2,200. Gamegram makes it mandatory at $10,000 withdrawn. 500 Casino can ask at any time and gives you seven days to comply.
A welcome bonus sits right on top of that first withdrawal. A reload comes after you’ve been verified and paid, so a win on it is less likely to set off a new round of document requests. That’s a real advantage, and it’s the strongest argument for reloads.
Welcome offers carry more caps
Big welcome packages protect themselves with cashout limits. 500 Casino caps conversion at $1,000 or 10x your deposit, whichever is lower. FortuneJack caps free-spin winnings at 5x the bonus. CryptoSlots caps bonus winnings at $5,000. A cap on a welcome offer turns a lucky hit into a fixed number. Reloads carry caps less often, but check anyway.
You know the site by then
Most confiscations come from max bet breaches, excluded games and bonus buys during wagering. New players make those mistakes because they don’t yet know the cashier or which games count. By your third deposit you do.

Multi-deposit welcome packages
Many crypto welcome offers are really four matches in a row, each tied to a new deposit. That means four sets of wagering, four deadlines and more chances to misread something. FortuneJack’s “500%” casino pack needs four deposits, each wagered 10x, all inside 14 days, and pays free spins worth about 20% of each deposit. We grade only the first stage of any multi-stage pack, and that one scores 30/100. Our guide to why casino bonuses expire covers how staged deadlines produce breakage.
Cancelling a match early
The cancel button isn’t a settings toggle. Cancelling usually removes the bonus and any winnings attached to it, and at many casinos a withdrawal request does the same thing automatically. 500 Casino’s terms say withdrawing your deposit before wagering is complete forfeits the bonus and its winnings. With a sticky match where the deposit is locked in, as at CryptoSlots and Sportsbet.io, you can’t take your own money out until wagering clears.
Before you claim any match, welcome or reload
- Is wagering on the bonus only, or on deposit plus bonus? Convert it to a multiple of the bonus.
- Multiply that out in dollars and divide by the days you have.
- Check which games count, and at what rate. Slots-only with tables at 20% is normal. Tables at 0% for a blackjack player is a no.
- Find the max bet and the max cashout.
- Check whether your deposit is locked in with the bonus.
- On sports offers, check the minimum odds, whether the stake is returned, and which sports are excluded. Sportsbet.io’s bonus money can’t touch esports at all.
- Check the order of steps. At Sportsbet.io you activate the bonus first and then deposit. Deposit first and the bonus doesn’t attach.
- Ask whether you’d deposit at this site without the bonus. If not, the bonus is doing too much of the work.
When to skip the match entirely
Some casinos have dropped the match altogether. In March 2026 Rakebit replaced its 100% up to $4,000 match at 30x with a rakeback scheme. The trouble is the new terms aren’t published, which is why it scores 39/100 in our Rakebit review. A match with clear terms beats a better-sounding offer with none.
If the wagering is D+B above about 25x, the clock is 7 days, or the match is tiny and sticky, you’re usually better off playing with your own money. A wager-free alternative often beats both welcome and reload: 20% cashback on a lost $100 is $20 in real cash with nothing to clear, while the 30% D+B reload above has an expected value of minus $126. Our cashback and rakeback guide lists the ones that actually pay. On the sports side, BetOnline’s free bet has no rollover on winnings at all and scores 88/100.
FAQ
Are reload bonuses safer than welcome bonuses?
Often, but not by definition. Reloads come after your first withdrawal checks and carry fewer cashout caps. But a small reload with deposit-plus-bonus wagering can be far worse than a welcome offer: 30% at 30x D+B means wagering 130 times the bonus.
What is a deposit match bonus?
A promotion that adds bonus funds as a percentage of your deposit. A 100% match up to $200 adds $100 to a $100 deposit. The bonus funds must be wagered before they, or winnings from them, can be withdrawn.
What is the difference between bonus-only and deposit-plus-bonus wagering?
Bonus-only multiplies just the bonus. Deposit-plus-bonus multiplies your deposit as well, so a 100% match at 30x D+B is really 60x the bonus, and a 50% match at 30x D+B is 90x.
Is a bigger match percentage better?
Not on its own. Sportsbet.io offers the same 100% up to 300 USDT on sports and casino, and they score 70 and 56 in our grading because one needs 25x at odds of 1.50+ and the other 40x with 12 providers excluded.
Can I withdraw my deposit while a match bonus is active?
Usually only by forfeiting the bonus and its winnings. With a sticky bonus, your deposit may be locked until wagering is complete.
Is a deposit match better than cashback?
Only when the wagering is light. A bonus-only match at 20x or less can be worth more. At 30x or higher on deposit plus bonus, wager-free cashback usually wins because it can never have negative value.
