What Is Rollover in Crypto Casinos?
Why 30x Is Rarely 30x

Definition

Rollover (also called wagering or playthrough) is how much you must bet before a bonus, or winnings from it, can be withdrawn. It’s written as a multiplier: 30x on a $100 bonus means $3,000 of bets. The multiplier is the least reliable number in the terms. What it’s multiplied by, which bets count, and how the money is released can turn “30x” into 60x, 300x or 400x.

Real rollovers below come from our bonus reviews, rechecked in September 2026.

Rollover is 26% of our grading formula, the biggest single factor, because it decides most of what a bonus is actually worth. This guide covers how to turn any advertised multiplier into the real one, what it costs you, and where real crypto offers land.

Five ways 30x stops being 30x

1. The base: bonus only or deposit plus bonus

Bonus-only (BO) wagering multiplies the bonus. Deposit plus bonus (D+B) multiplies both. On a $100 deposit with a $100 bonus, 30x BO is $3,000 of bets and 30x D+B is $6,000, which is really 60x the bonus. The smaller the match, the worse D+B gets: a 30% match at 30x D+B is 130x the bonus. The full table is in our deposit match guide. Same headline, twice the work, and a lower multiplier on the wrong base is often the worse deal: 25x D+B needs $5,000, 40x BO needs $4,000.

2. Game weighting

If a game counts 10% toward wagering, divide the rollover by 0.10. 30x on blackjack at 10% is 300x: $30,000 of hands for a $100 bonus. Some casinos now weight by RTP. At 500 Casino, games at 95% RTP or below count 1:1 and a 99.5% game counts 1:10. See our guide to game weighting and excluded games.

3. Winnings added to the base

Some offers apply wagering to bonus plus winnings. Run a $100 bonus up to $400 and 30x becomes $12,000 of bets, costing about $480 at a 4% edge. The better you do, the further the finish line moves.

4. Staged and per-deposit rollover

Multi-deposit packages apply a rollover per deposit, and the ratio to the bonus shifts with each stage. Betplay.io asks for 60x per deposit, which on its second deposit (a 50% match) works out at 120x the bonus. FortuneJack’s casino missions need each deposit wagered 10x to earn free spins worth about 20% of it, which is 50x the value of what you get, before a further 30x on the spin winnings.

5. Release rates

The newest disguise is the “boost” or unlock bonus: a big number released gradually as you bet. 500 Casino’s 300% rakeback boost releases $1 per $400 wagered. That’s a 400x rollover wearing a rakeback label. A $300 boost needs $120,000 of real-money bets.

What rollover costs you

Every dollar you wager loses the house edge on average, so the cost of a rollover is total wagering × house edge. On 96% RTP slots, a 4% edge:

$100 deposit, $100 bonusTotal wageringExpected costExpected value
10x bonus only$1,000$40+$60
20x bonus only$2,000$80+$20
30x bonus only$3,000$120−$20
30x deposit plus bonus$6,000$240−$140
40x deposit plus bonus$8,000$320−$220

The break-even point on a 96% slot is 25x bonus only. Anything above it loses on average. On a 98% slot it’s 50x. RTP matters, which is why a 40x offer on a 98% game ($80 cost) can beat 25x on a 94% game ($150). But it matters less than the structure, and high-RTP games are the first to be excluded or down-weighted. The detail is in our guide to RTP and volatility for bonus clearing.

How often players actually finish

Expected value assumes you finish. Most don’t. We simulated 20,000 sessions per scenario: $100 deposit, $100 bonus, $1 spins on 96% RTP slots.

At 30x D+B, even on the steadiest slot, nearly three sessions in four end at zero. That’s breakage, and it’s what pays for the headline. Our guide to why casino bonuses expire shows how short deadlines push those numbers lower still.

How we score rollover

20x or lower100
21x to 30x80
31x to 40x60
41x to 49x40
50x or more0, automatic fail

We always convert to a multiple of the bonus first. That’s why a D+B offer can fail even with a modest headline, and why Sportsbet.io’s score depends on reading its 25x and 40x as bonus-only. If they turned out to be deposit plus bonus, both would become automatic fails.

The top of that table is sports free bets, and it isn’t close. On the casino side, nothing we’ve graded in this set clears 30x. The cleanest casino value comes from structures with no rollover at all: wager-free cashback and rakeback.

Sports rollover works differently

On sports, the cost is the bookmaker’s margin rather than a house edge. At standard −110 odds that’s about 4.5%. BetNow’s PROMOBUCKS on a $100 deposit needs $2,000 of bets, which costs about $90 in margin against a $100 bonus: slightly positive, which is why it scores 80. Accumulators multiply the margin (about 14% on three legs at 5% each), and odds floors change how you can clear it. Both are covered in our guide to minimum odds requirements.

The UK already capped it

Since 19 January 2026, UK-licensed casinos can’t set wagering above 10x the bonus, and can’t mix products such as casino and sports in one promotion. At 10x bonus-only, even a 96% slot costs only 40% of the bonus. Offshore crypto casinos aren’t bound by it, so treat 10x as the benchmark of what a fair rollover looks like.

Work out any rollover in a minute

  1. Find the base: bonus only, deposit plus bonus, or bonus plus winnings.
  2. Multiply it out in dollars.
  3. Divide by the contribution rate of the game you’ll actually play.
  4. Multiply by the house edge (4% on a 96% slot). If that’s more than the bonus, the offer loses on average.
  5. Divide the total by the days you have. If the daily figure is more than you’d normally play, skip it.
  6. Check for release rates, per-deposit stages and cashout caps. Any of them can override everything above.

FAQ

What does 30x rollover mean?

You must bet 30 times the base amount before withdrawing. On a $100 bonus with bonus-only wagering that’s $3,000. If the rollover applies to deposit plus bonus, it’s $6,000.

What is a good rollover for a crypto casino bonus?

20x the bonus or lower scores full marks in our grading. On a 96% RTP slot, 25x bonus-only is roughly break-even. Anything at 50x or more is an automatic fail in our formula.

What is the difference between bonus-only and deposit-plus-bonus rollover?

Bonus-only multiplies the bonus. Deposit plus bonus multiplies your deposit too, so a 100% match at 30x D+B is really 60x the bonus, and a 30% match at 30x D+B is 130x.

How much does clearing a rollover cost?

Total wagering multiplied by the house edge. On 96% RTP slots, $6,000 of wagering costs about $240 on average, which is more than a $100 bonus is worth.

Do all games count toward rollover?

No. Slots usually count 100%, tables often 10%, and many high-RTP games or whole providers are excluded. Some casinos weight by RTP, like 500 Casino, where a 99.5% game counts 1:10.

How many players complete a bonus rollover?

In our simulations of 30x deposit plus bonus on 96% slots, only 10% to 27% of sessions finished, depending on volatility. At 15x bonus-only on a low-volatility slot, 97% finished.
